The Lowdown

Located up the coast from Portugal’s capital city, Porto sits on the banks of the Douro River. The city is known for its legendary port wine production. In the medieval district close to the river (Ribeira), you’ll find narrow, cobblestone streets, cafes, restaurants, and loads of places to explore.

Where to Stay

Mouzinho 134 is THE place to stay in Porto. It’s in the center of the historic district (backs on to a 13th century cobblestone street), close to the train and public transit, and the hospitality is amazing. You’ll be greeted with some port wine when you check-in, as well as a map of the city that outlines recommendations from your hosts. If that wasn’t enough, you’ll even get some fresh pastries delivered to your door every morning. This place is a total gem.

Porto i/o has both a downtown and riverfront location, but the downtown location is more suited to short term use, while the riverfront location focuses more on long-term co-working (at least a month). The downtown location is also only a short walk from your apartment at Mouzinho 134.

Armazém Cowork is a little further from the historic center of town, but provides another great option for coworking, whether it’s for a few days, weeks, or months.

Where to Eat

Porto has many options for port wine tastings, seafood, pastries, and “francesinhas”, the local sandwich made of thick bread, 5 meats, melted cheese, and tomato gravy. Cafe Santiago is the most famous stop for francesinhas in town.

If you’re looking for gelato, Gelataria Portuense has some of the creamiest you’ll find anywhere.
