The Lowdown
It’s easy to see why SURFER Magazine named Encinitas the 3rd best surf town in America. The city is safe, beautiful, and has stunning sunsets, idyllic weather, and delicious fish tacos. It’s also a short drive to San Diego, which offers more beach views, big-city arts and culture, Padres games, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo. It’s safe to say you’ll never want to leave.
Where to Stay
Outsite (click for $50 off your first stay) is definitely the place to stay in Encinitas. The location features a workspace and deck with an ocean view, a beautiful state beach steps away, and a short walk to some amazing restaurants. Accommodations are either private or shared- the longer you stay, the better your rate. They also have bikes and surfboards for no additional charge at the property. It’s the perfect place to experience that laid-back California vibe.

Where to Work
Outsite offers a large second-floor workspace with a view overlooking the ocean that’s heard to beat. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also an outdoor deck with a view of the ocean (also with wifi).
If you’re looking for more of a typical office setting, BLOC is less than a block from Outsite, or Union Cowork is a short drive or bike ride away in downtown Encinitas. Union Cowork requires a minimum monthly commitment, and BLOC is more of a long-term thing but it has boardrooms available for booking.
Finally, another great option to change things up is Better Buzz Coffee, also in downtown Encinitas. They offer some great brew, food, and an indoor/outdoor space with wifi that’s great for getting some work done.

Where to Eat
If you’re looking for an introduction to San Diego’s famous fish tacos, look no further than Fish 101 and Taco Stand. Fish 101 is a very short walk from Outsite. Taco Stand is more of a drive or bike ride, but it’s also located on the Pacific Coast Highway in downtown Encinitas. Both restaurants are small and very popular, so be prepared to wait in line outside if you go in high times.
If you’ve had your fill of fish tacos, try out Pandora’s Pizza in downtown Encinitas. You won’t be disappointed!
For breakfast, Nectarine Grove serves up a variety of delicious breakfast and brunch options, and they also serve lunch, dinner, and baked goods. They have tons of gluten-free, organic, and vegan/vegetarian options, and their ingredients are locally sourced.

Where to Play
This is classic California- heavenly for surfers and outdoor enthusiasts. There are several beaches in the area to explore- you can easily spend several days doing just that. The calmer waves also make it a great place to learn surfing- you’ll find a few surf shops downtown to book a lesson. Downtown Encinitas is also worth a stroll and to grab a taco or few.
If you’re more into hiking, be sure to add the scenic Torrey Pines trails to your itinerary. Leave yourself at least half a day to hit all the trails and lookouts in the Torrey Pines area.
San Diego is a short drive from Encinitas, and has music, arts, culture, museums, more beaches, MLB baseball, and the San Diego Zoo. A smokie and a night at the ball park can be a nice change of pace from sunsets on the beach.

What You’ll Need
If you want to do any exploring or grocery shopping, it’s probably best to rent a car. Although there are many awesome restaurants within walking distance (you could easily eat a different one every day for a couple weeks), your typical grocery store or market is a bit further afield (15-20 minute drive). Renting a car also gives you lots of flexibility in terms of sight-seeing: You can easily get into San Diego for the day. Parking is free all over Encinitas, and very inexpensive in San Diego, but spots can be very hard to find- especially in the hotspots (like beaches) where there are often limited spots.
If you’re happy just chilling at the house and nearby beaches for a few days, an Uber from SAN to Outsite is around $40 USD.
How to Get There
You can fly into either Los Angeles (LAX) or San Diego (SAN). It’s a little shorter drive to the property from San Diego (45 minutes from the airport vs 1.5 hours from LA), but you might be able to find cheaper flights into LA- the scenic drive down the Pacific Coast Highway from LA to San Diego is a nice little perk if that happens to be the case. The Outsite property is conveniently located one block off the Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) and a few blocks from the I-5 Interstate which both run from LA to downtown San Diego.
