Ultimate Backyard Movie Theatre

The Ultimate Backyard Movie Theatre

Posted by on June 18th, 2020

With the summer season upon us, and still many Covid-19 restrictions in place (including the closure of movie theatres), it’s the ideal time to set up your own backyard movie theatre.

Since digital nomads are constantly travelling, we made sure these items also don’t take up too much space in your bag.

Take this movie theatre with you anywhere you go!

1. Apeman M4 Pocket LED DLP Projector

This pocket size (3.86*3.86*0.85 inches) and lightweight (0.44 lbs) projector is extremely easy to throw in a bag. It’s roughly the size of the palm of your hand. It supports full HD (1080P) with a 1000:1 contrast ratio. Within a distance of 1-4m, it can achieve a 30″ to 100″ big display screen size. We’re using it with an 80″ screen (see below), and it works great. The projection quality is surprisingly good, especially considering its pocket size. There are higher quality projectors on the market, but not that offer this level of quality and portability. I would give it a solid 4/5 for projection quality. It’s everything I’d want personally, and I’m not willing to sacrifice portability for additional quality.

This projector has about 2 hours of rechargeable battery life. It also can play audio, but I would recommend connecting to a bluetooth speaker instead. Connect your laptop, phone, or any other device for instant projection via the included HDMI cable. The HDMI cable is quite short, so you may want to use your own cable for extra reach.

If you don’t have a screen, this projector will still work with a blank, untextured, white surface.

2. Vamvo 80″ Movie Screen

This screen is extremely portable, and setup is a breeze. It’s recommended that you steam iron out the wrinkles when you remove it from the package, but you’ll be able to put it up in just a few minutes.

Setup for this screen feels like putting up a tent. It uses flexible poles, and they are already connected and fold up into a small pole bag. You’ll also get a few pegs that you can use to secure the screen to the ground in case of wind.

3. HDMI Adaptor

Since the Apeman M4 has an HDMI input, you’ll need an HDMI output from your device. Click on your device below, and we’ll direct you to the appropriate adaptor on Amazon.

4. Bluetooth Audio

This is the tricky bit. Although the projector has audio capabilities, you’ll probably want to use a bluetooth speaker or two instead. You can turn any speakers into bluetooth speakers with the Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter. This is a great option for your own backyard, if you have some larger speakers you can set up.

If you’re on the move, as nomads usually are, try the Bose Soundlink Micro Waterproof Bluetooth Speakers. They’re fully waterproof, and pack a pretty good punch. They also don’t take up much space in your bag (less than 4 inches tall). You can even set up two of them together for a stereo experience.

Finally, if you’re just hanging out at home, you may want to purchase a sound bar to go with your screen and projector. A sound bar sits nicely under the screen, and will take your movie experience to the next level. Check out the Bose Solo 5 Soundbar on Amazon.

Summing it All Up

Whether you’re home or abroad, the Apeman M4 Pocket Projector is great to have along. You can enjoy big screen movies from your phone, computer, or other HDMI device. It’s the perfect setup for a backyard movie night, or a movie night while you’re camping or travelling.
